MN C&C – July 2011

It’s hard to believe, but this past weekend was the 4th of July. Where has the time gone? This weekend also was cars and coffee, a time for anyone who likes cars to share their passion.

The weather was truly gorgeous this month, with temps in the high 80s, and not a cloud in the sky, we couldn’t have asked for better weather.

I left Plymouth in the 300ZX around 6:20 am and arrived at the AutoMotorPlex at 6:45 am. I was one of the first Japanese cars there, but the Audi and BMW row was already half full.

By 8 am the entire complex was full and the C&C crew has no choice but to turn some cars away. A total of approximately 450 show cars were in attendance, and around 1,500 people came to see the unique metal.

Many of the “regulars” were in attendance, but there were also some cars I’ve never seen before. The red Porsche Speedster was one of the cars that truly captured my rather short attention span. It was absolutely gorgeous.

Another gorgeous piece of German metal in attendance was this 2001 RUF 996 Rturbo. Not only was it truly stunning (I’ve got a thing for blue you know), but it was for sale. I heard mumblings about an asking price of $50k. When I pulled out of C&C around 10:30 am I heard it had been sold. I was able to later confirm that indeed the beast had been sold. Truly magnificent.

I have to say this 1969 Triumph TR6 was one of the most unique vehicles in attendance this month. It features a highly modified Pontiac engine with a ridiculously big turbo charger. You can see the cut outs on the hood for the turbo. The owner of this unique ride told me it is putting out approximately 700 horsepower and in the neighborhood of 900 lb-ft. It ran the 1/4 in 8:74 at 155 mph and weighs around 2,000 lbs.

Another unique, and rare, sighting at this months gathering was this gorgeous R33 Skyline. Sporting Infiniti G35 wheels and other modifications, this silver beauty definitely garnered some serious attention.

While there are so many more cans I can mention there is one I just can’t overlook. This beauty with the zip tied body kit and graffiti paint job…I remember when it came to Cars and Coffee with a green paint job sporting John Deer logos. How far we’ve come.

The local Chump Car teams all had a get together during Cars and Coffee this month. Needless to say, it was very entertaining to look at these cars. Alex Bellus even brought his Contour out, plexiglass windows and all.

Until next month, keep your paint clean and always have the shiny side up.
