MN C&C – May 2011

Holy crap, it’s already that season again! Actually, if you live in Minnesota you’d find it hard to believe it’s that season again due to the late spring we’ve had. Regardless, it is that season where gearheads, car junkies, kids, wives, and anyone else that wants to get up early on a Saturday morning, gather together to gawk over cars while drinking coffee and eating doughnuts.

The weather was predicted to be quite crappy. When I woke up it was clearly nice outside with dry roads. I did a quick check on the radar and saw a nice storm cell North of us. It was supposedly going to pass through the C&C area. I made an executive decision not to take the 300ZX and instead roll in the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible I had as my press car. Hindsight is 20/20, but the weather turned out to be amazing and I wish I had taken the Z. At least the Camaro was a convertible so I was able to cruise with the top down.

While C&C clearly has its regulars, it is very cool to see new faces each month. Among the unique rides I have personally yet to see (or least remember seeing) at C&C, this Mustang GT 350H definitely caught my eye. One of the original Hertz edition Mustangs, which was in immaculate condition.

If you follow my blog or just know me in real life, you’ll know that I feel the CTS-V Sport Wagon is pretty much the ultimate vehicle. I was overjoyed to see one of these sitting at C&C this weekend. I know how few of these will actually sell, and to see one locally is just terrific. To my dismay this particular example did not have the optional Recaro seats (totally worth $3,400) or the no-cost optional six-speed automatic transmission. Regardless, it looked terrific in the red jewel tintcoat paint job.

Meet Darlene. She is a Panoz Esperante with a 32-Valve V-8 engine with power sent to the rear-wheels through a six-speed manual. She’s gorgeous and has a terrific exhaust note. Moving along…

Want to know the coolest part about this Ulpima GTR? I bet you can’t guess….try and guess. Can’t guess? The coolest part was the fact that the passenger seat was occupied by a child seat. Now I know what you are thinking, Joel, isn’t that illegal and unsafe. I’m no law expert, but I would assume it is illegal and probably unsafe. But it’s still very cool. Definitely shows that this car is at least used. Wonder what the owners wife has to say about that….

Not only was there a record turn out this month, there was a record turn out of Lamborghinis. In total I’m told there were five Lamboghinis that showed up, and the sixth one (a Gallardo) was turned away for being dirty.

Was it the invasion of the hipsters this weekend? I kid. But seriously, I did over hear some people discussing how many young kids were there. This Volkswagen GLI has a hipster feel to it with the plaid hood and yellow rimmed wheels.

So anyone that knows me, knows I have a thing for Monster. When I stumbled upon this make shift hood strut, I knew it had to be included into the post. If only it was a Monster Lo-Carb….

As I mentioned above, this months C&C had a record turnout. I’ve been told that nearly 2,000 people attended. That’s both crazy and awesome. Cars were coming and going all throughout the morning. Clearly this months C&C was a hit and I can’t wait for the season to continue, until then stay warm and keep your cars clean.
